Synonymous with style, elegance and sophistication, St Moritz is the original winter destination. In our guide, we delve into this incredible town and show you how to add even more glamour by flying in by private jet.
Nestled in the east of the Swiss Alps, St Moritz is highly regarded as the pinnacle of winter destinations, with excellent snow available for a range of alpine sports – no wonder it has been the host of the Winter Olympics not once, but twice.
Beyond the 350km of piste, nothing quite exemplifies St Moritz’s sophisticated sense of adventure than the annual Snow Polo tournament (24th-26th January), where teams from around the world compete for the Cartier Trophy.
For real adventure however, you must visit the St Moritz Tobogganing Club. Founded in 1887 by four Englishmen, all comers from all walks of life have taken on the famous natural ice Cresta Run, which winds down from St Moritz to what was once the old village of Cresta. Witness daredevils take it on during the Christmas period, up until early March.
The frozen lake of St Moritz – once landed on by Charlie Chaplin in his plane - also hosts ice cricket and horse racing (February), but fear not, conventional skiing and winters sports are available outside of the prestigious annual events.
Luxury never far away
If you’re looking for a more relaxed getaway, St Moritz’s reputation was built on its spa town origins. Today, you can still benefit from it’s famous mineral springs and enjoy a variety of holistic treatments. You may also enjoy indulging in some shopping at Via Serlas, which is noted as Europe’s highest outdoor shopping promenade.
The glamour of the town can be seen from every angle. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to five star hotels. The likes of Bridgette Bardot frequented Badrutt’s Palace, whilst the Kulm Hotel is even more iconic – the first grand hotel is unmistakable luxury, and you will be reminded of its adventurous history as you walk past reminders of the sporting feats of visiting Royals. Such is its reputation, some say the Kulm is as important as the snow, but Suvretta House is no poor relation, looking like fairy-tale castle amongst the alpine landscape.
As you can imagine, these hotels are also great places to eat, but it’s not hard to find good food wherever you go in St Moritz. The locals also claim food just tastes better at 1,882m above sea level!
Arrive in St Moritz by private jet
To truly treat yourself to the trip of a lifetime, experience the convenience of getting to St Moritz by private jet.
Flying by private jet means you can get closer to your resort, with their smaller size allowing them to use the shorter runways at private airports. This greater choice compared to flying by commercial aircraft means we tend to get you closer to the resort.
The closest airport to St Mortiz that we fly to is Alternrhein, with a journey time of 2 hours, 10 minutes.
This forms a contrast to doing battle at Gatwick in busy ski season, to only arrive at Zurich airport – with a longer transfer of 2 hour 45 minutes. Including the return leg, that’s at least 6 hours of travel time saved when you factor in boarding our planes takes mere minutes from arrival at the airport.
Once you have arrived at Alternrhein, you can be whisked away by a chauffeured car to your grand hotel or luxury chalet.
